Running for Office

How did Barbi decide to run for office?

A:

Los Angeles is the place where dreams come true. I’m running for State Senate for District 26 and I am ready to bring the California dream back to Sacramento. I am a realistic dreamer who knows what it takes to succeed. I know the pride of hard work. I grew up with a family legacy of military service and helped my grandparents shuck corn and feed cattle on their farm. I attended California public schools as a teenager and worked in restaurants to help my Dad pay rent. I know the joy of raising a child and the peace of mind that comes with being cancer-free. As a newlywed, I faced the responsibility of a parent’s death, and as a new mother, the heartbreak of a terminal diagnosis. As a longtime Santa Monica resident, I have served as a community development lawyer and I want to reclaim the California dream to: 1. Protect our environment by restricting hydraulic fracking & new oil platforms off our coast; 2. Build a stronger economy from Hollywood to Silicon Beach with a film/TV tax credit that works, expanded opportunities for veterans, and universal preschool; and 3. Foster safer communities with increased support to local law enforcement and improved rehabilitation programs. I’m your neighbor who believes in hope, possibility, and hard work. I know the transformative power of faith, community, and opportunity because of the obstacles I have faced. Run with me. Vote for Barbi Appelquist to bring the California dream back to the 21st Century.
